What is isochronous transmission?
The issue is that the Mini DV (iLink) Firewire IEEE 1394 uses isochronous transmission. It means that the two (2) devices connected to one another agree on a transmission bandwidth. Then, stick to that bandwidth without being interrupted until the file transfer is completed.
NOTE: The USB 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 do NOT support isochronous transmissions. Isochronous transmission is really for Firewire connections (point A and point B), although USB 3.0 now supports isochronous transmissions as well.
