Intellistream is a feature of many Belkin routers that prioritizes video, voice over IP (VoIP) and gaming traffic for a better online entertainment experience.
For example, let's say two (2) users are connected to the router at the same time. One is streaming a video and while the other is downloading music. Using Intellistream, your Belkin router is capable of giving bandwidth priority to the video resulting to faster performance.
Intellistream can prioritize Internet traffic automatically by giving different priority to five (5) categories.
Follow the steps below to identify the services held within each category:
i. Accessing the web-based setup page
ii. Identifying the types of services in each category
Accessing the web-based setup page
Step 1:
On your computer, open any browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari®).
Step 2:
In the address bar, enter "192.168.2.1" and press [Enter] on your keyboard. You will then be directed to the router's web-based setup page.
Step 3:
Click Login on the upper right corner.
Step 4:
Once prompted to log in, leave the Password field blank and click the Submit button.
Step 5:
Under the Media Features section, click Traffic Chart. You will then be directed to the Traffic Chart page.
Identifying the types of services in each category
The charts below show both WAN outbound and inbound Internet traffic prioritized into different categories. These display the summary of activities from the last 10 minutes, which also automatically updates every five (5) seconds.
Priority 1: Network connectivity and control. Used to initiate web requests and etc. Uses a very small amount of bandwidth but is very important to be given a high priority.
Priority 2: Voice, Video Chat and Gaming. Examples include Skype™, Vonage, BlackBerry® UMA, Samsung® UMA, Apple® Face time, STUN, PSN, Xbox LIVE®, Nintendo Wii®, Blizzard/Battlenet, Ultima Online, Yahoo Voice, Lord of the Rings online, Battlefield: BC2, Onlive, Steam games.
Priority 3: Web and web video. Examples include Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Vimeo, Vudu, Youtube, etc. It does also include the standard web pages and virtually anything that opens in your web browser.
Priority 4: E-mail and VPN. For example IPSEC VPN, email (POP3, SMTP, IMAP) and AIM messenger.
Priority 5: All other traffic. Including FTP, Bittorrent, Steam Downloads, Blizzard Downloads, UltimaOnline Downloads.
