Thread support for the Wemo Stage Scene Controller

Thread is a low-power mesh networking technology protocol designed to connect all the devices in your home.  It creates a mesh network by making each device in your arsenal an access point.  To know more, click here

Wemo® Stage Smart Scene Controller, WSC010 users can now enjoy the Thread feature available in the firmware version 2.9.6.  Thread improves the performance of the Wemo WSC010, making control more responsive.

NOTE:  You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of this feature as long as the automatic firmware update feature is enabled in your Wemo Stage Scene Controller.  If the automatic update feature is not turned ON, you can enable it in the Apple® Home app.

Thread support requires certain Thread-compatible hardware to be available on the network.  You must have either of the two:

  • Apple HomePod mini®
  • Apple TV® Home app 4K 2021 release (newest generation)

If you don’t have one of these devices on the network, then the Wemo Stage Scene Controller will continue to use Bluetooth® to communicate with the Home Hub.

If you have one of these devices on the network, the Wemo Stage Scene Controller should detect the Thread-compatible device and begin communicating using Thread.  No user intervention is needed to switch over.
