Primary audio application modes and features of the Belkin Fusive Bluetooth™ Speaker, G2A1000

The Belkin Fusive Bluetooth™ Speaker, G2A1000 is a slim, portable, high-fidelity wireless speaker for mobile phones and tablets.  This article lists down the primary audio application modes and features of the Belkin Fusive Bluetooth Speaker, G2A1000.

Speakerphone Output mode

Fusive uses Bluetooth HFP to operate a speakerphone for telephone and VoIP apps running on tablets and smartphones.  It has a DSP profile that optimizes the EQ for voiceband enhancement and provides local Acoustic Echo Cancellation, bypassing the AEC in the AG.

When the speakerphone output mode is active, other audio sources, like A2DP audio and Aux input audio are suppressed, dictated by Bluetooth standard and by Fusive user requirement, respectively.

  • Microphone input - A microphone input on Fusive supports the speakerphone mode.
  • Acoustic echo cancellation - An echo cancellation during speakerphone operation for the entire volume range of audio output.
  • Sound profiles - Fusive has a mono DSP profile that optimizes output for “human speech” content.  This mode is automatically triggered along with HFP Bluetooth mode.

Stereo Speaker Output mode

The Belkin Fusive Bluetooth Speaker, G2A1000 supports two (2) separate stereo audio input sources, i.e.: Bluetooth and Stereo aux. Stereo aux input can operate alongside Bluetooth stereo audio via mix.

The following items describe each input source as well as certain DSP features required to support these input sources:

  • Bluetooth - Belkin Fusive Bluetooth Speaker, G2A1000 uses Bluetooth A2DP to act as stereo speaker for music-like content rendering sent from various mobile devices and computer platforms such as smartphones, tablets, and notebook PCs.
  • Stereo aux input - Fusive shall support stereo headphone and line-level input via a standard 3.5mm stereo connector.  Its “Aux input” source mixes into Bluetooth stereo audio only (not HFP audio).  This means that the audio coming from an aux input source will play simultaneously with Bluetooth A2DP audio and the volume domain will be “mastered” by the Bluetooth connection.  When BT is not connected or playing, Fusive’s volume control can freely adjust the output gain of the Stereo aux input audio.
  • Codec Support - per Bluetooth A2DP spec, Fusive shall support SBC decompression to receive audio from all Bluetooth Audio Gateways supporting A2DP.  Fusive also supports AAC LC decompression to receive audio with premium sound from Apple iOS devices.
  • Decoder Post-process - for SBC decoded audio, Fusive includes specific post-processing to enhance the quality of the resulting sound.  The enhancement mitigates the effects of this lossy codec, and re-compression artifacts inherent in the default A2DP signal path.

Fusive employs NuSound technology to enhance the output of design-specific speaker drivers in custom enclosures.

Audio Demo mode

Fusive provides a demo mode that loops an audio file showcasing the sound performance.  Demo mode is initiated by powering on Fusive while the BT button and Volume Up buttons are held down.  During demo mode:

  • Volume controls work
  • Track forward and track back will navigate through the demo tracks
  • Play/pause will start and stop the demo loop playback
  • Power on and off Fusive will not disable Demo mode, but it shall restart the demo loop from the beginning
  • During playback of demo tracks, Fusive can change to different DSP modes at pre-determined trigger points

NOTE:  Demo mode is disabled by powering ON Fusive while the BT and Volume Down buttons are held down.
