Installing and configuring the Plex Media Server on your Windows® computer

The Plex Media Server allows you to organize your digital media files such as videos, music and photos.  This application also allows you to stream or view your media content on other Plex clients such as your mobile phones, tablets, game consoles, set-top boxes and wireless televisions.

Windows® computer.

Downloading the Plex Media Server installer
 
Step 1:
Launch a web browser such as Internet Explorer® or Mozilla Firefox®, enter "https://plex.tv/downloads" in the Address bar, then press [Enter].
 
Step 2:
Click DOWNLOADS.
 
Step 3:
Select Windows from the Choose your platform dropdown menu, then click DOWNLOAD.

 
NOTE:  Depending on your browser's settings, the file will start downloading to the Downloads folder or prompt you to select the location for your file.  In this example, Mozilla Firefox is used.  Downloads are saved in the Downloads folder by default.
 
Your Plex Media Server installer will begin downloading.


Installing the Plex Media Server on your computer
 
After downloading the installer, you may now begin installing the Plex Media Server installer.  Follow the instructions below:

 
Step 1:
Navigate to the location where you downloaded the installer.
 
Step 2:
Click Run.
 
Step 3:
Follow the installer's on-screen instructions.

Step 4:
Click the Launch button on the final installation screen.

The Setup Wizard will then launch to help finalize your installation.
 
Initial configuration of the Plex Media Server

 
Step 1:
Choose the appropriate option when you're prompted to sign in to your Plex account.

NOTE:  If you don't have an account, choose among the options to be guided in signing up.

 
Step 2:
Click GOT IT! on the How Plex Works screen.
 
Step 3:

On the Plex Pass screen, click the X button to proceed with the setup.

NOTE:  You may choose from the options on this screen to upgrade your account to Plex Pass.


Step 4:
The Setup Wizard will detect your Plex server.  Click NEXT to proceed.

NOTE:  You may customize the name for the server on your computer by typing your preferred name in the field.

Step 5:
The Setup Wizard will automatically detect the media libraries on your computer.  Click NEXT.

NOTE:  To add more folders to your server, click the ADD LIBRARY.  To configure or remove the libraries, select from the edit or remove buttons next to the library names.  You may configure these settings later.

Step 6:
Click DONE to go to your Plex Media Server home screen.

Your Plex Media Server has been configured.  You are now redirected to the home screen.
